The Elder Scrolls 6 Release Date: Speculation for the Nation.

So a rumour recently dropped that Bethesda were working on a new Elder Scrolls game and the internet. well the internet responded with underwhelming indifference, to be honest. Quite rightly so, too. In a contrary to the usual turn of events, there's actually less to this rumour that meets the eye...

"My Cousin's out there fighting dragons and what do I get? Forum moderator duty..."

Unfortunately, this seems to be a classic case of the internet rumour mill going in to overdrive. I can’t even find the root of this story anymore as it’s buried underneath hundreds of conflicting articles and likely has no hope of ever seeing the light of day again. I’ve seen outlets claim that the game will be set in the province of Hammerfell or Black Marsh. I’ve seen outlets claim that this is a direct sequel to Skyrim whilst others suggest that this game simply doesn’t exist at all. No-one seems to be able to agree on their information and it can all be very confusing if you’re trying to find any glimmer of actual information in all of this. Luckily, the beautiful thing about the situation we fans of the Elder Scrolls find us in is that every article is right.

The internet, like Ulfric Stormcloak, is right in many ways and really... REALLY wrong in many others...

Bethesda haven’t said anything on the subject of the Elder Scrolls: 6, or at least not publicly. In fact, the only quote I can find from an actual Bethesda employee that’s worth the time of day is that the Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be coming for “a very, very long time“. This means that all this misplaced hype and speculation is just that: misplaced hype and speculation. Hype and speculation is a good thing because it keeps the franchise alive in a time where there would otherwise be a lull in enthusiasm, but we don’t know anything concrete yet. We know that work on 2015’s Fallout 4 started pretty much exactly after Skyrim launched back in 2011, so we can postulate that TES:6 is currently in development in some way, shape or form but I wouldn’t hold my breath. I’d need more potions of water breathing than the game can cope with to hold my breath for that long.

Are you an Argonian? You can probably hold your breath for long enough. I mean, I know they technically breathe underwater and don't actually hold their breath but c'mon, give me a break here...

In short, the Elder Scrolls 6 has a release date. Unfortunately, if the recent influx of hype shows us anything, no-one knows when that is. Sorry guys. I’m going to go build another tin shack somewhere out in the commonwealth and I suggest you do the same. You’re gonna need a lot of ceramic to build a computer capable of running the next game in the Elder Scrolls series. You can never be too prepared

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim was released in 2011 by Bethesda Softworks. Check it out here:
